Unit 6 When was it invented?

Section B (2a-2e)

Teaching Aims:

Knowledge aim: Students can learn some new words, phrases and sentence patterns.

Ability aim: Students can improve reading skills by fast and detailed reading.

Emotional aim: Students can learn the history and development of basketball and know more about other sports.

Teaching Key point : 

Learn to use passive voice in past tense to talk about inventions. Teaching Difficult Point:

Learn the special questions and answers.

Teaching Procedures:

Step1 Review and lead in

1. Review the past tense they have learned in last class.

2. Teacher plays the song of sports, let Students talk about basketball.

Step 2 Pre-reading

Students read the title and guess what the passage is mainly about.

Step 3 While-reading

1. Part 1: Fast reading

Students listen carefully and match each paragraph with main ideas. They have a general idea about the passage.

2. Part 2: Detailed reading

Task 1: Read paragraph 1 and get the meanings of numbers.

Task 2: Read paragraph 2 and decide T or F.

Task 3: Read paragraph 3 and finish the questions.

Step 4: Post-reading

1. Students have a group work and complete the mind map on the blackboard.

2. Students can discuss Ice Hockey by using the target language.

 Step 5: Homework

1. Choose one of your favorite sports and introduce it to your friends.

2. Finish the exercise on page 37.
