Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! My name is Feng Tingting. l’m from HuiMing Elementary school. I’m very glad to be here to present my teaching. Today, my topic is What’s the date today? To get a better understanding of my instructional designing, I am going to analyze the lesson from 8 parts: analysis of the textbook、analysis of the students、teaching aims、key and difficult points、teaching and learning methods、teaching procedures、blackboard design、evaluation and reflection .
Part 1: Analysis of the textbook
Firstly, I’ll talk about part 1— analysis of the textbook. The topic is taken from unit 5, Grade 5 of EEC. It’s a new lesson which talks about specific date and gifts you want to buy. Students are quite familiar with this topic and anxious to share their experience with their classmates. So this will be beneficial to today’s teaching and learning.
Part 2: Analysis of the students
Students of Grade 5 have studied English for at least 3 years and grasped a certain amount of English knowledge. They have some advantages and disadvantages. For example, they are active. They have strong interest. They can cooperate with their classmates to finish a task. However, Students' ability of using English is limited; their abstract thinking is not fully developed. Therefore, all of these shall be taken into consideration into today's teaching.
Part 3: Teaching aims
According to the new standard curriculum, the teaching aims are the following:
1. Knowledge aims
Knowledge aims are to enable the students to master new words、phrases and sentence patterns. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to read, recognize, and use these words: January~December, 1st~31st. And, these sentences:
--What’s the date today? --It’s...
--When’s your birthday? --My birthday is on ....
--What do you want to buy? --I want to buy her/him …
2. Abilities aims
Abilities aims are to develop the Students' abilities of listening、speaking、reading and writing. They can use words and phrases to talk about specific date in our life. And to train the Students' ability of working in pairs.
3. Emotion aims
Emotion aims are to increase the Students' interest in specific date and set up self-confidence in expression.
Part 4: The key and difficult points
According to the main instructional aims of teaching English in primary school, the understanding of this unit and the feature of the pupils, I think the key-points of this lesson is:
1. To make sure that students can say different date correctly and skillfully.
2. Students can express the gifts they want to buy.
It is difficult for students to finish the composition. I will help them to write the composition. So it is necessary to grasp the key and difficult points.
Part 5:Teaching methods and Learning methods
In order to achieve the aims mentioned above, I decide to choose “Communicative Approach”、“ Task—based Teaching Method” and “Situational Teaching Method”as the main teaching methods.
The learning methods of this lesson are pair work、group work 、individual work and discussion.
Part 6: Teaching procedures
Now, I will talk about the most important part—teaching procedures. There are 5 steps in this part.
Step 1. Warming-up (It will cost about 3 minutes.)
After greeting, I will begin the lesson by singing the song together with the students. The purpose of this is to form a better English learning surrounding for the students.
Then, show some pictures about month. And tell me which word is missing? Students can review the learnt knowledge.
Step 2. Presentation (It will cost about 17 minutes.)
Firstly, look at the calendar, and answer: which month are we in? What’s the date today? According to calendar, it's more intuitive for students to learn.
Secondly, our friend dinosaur has a question: Why we can’t say November one? I will give students 1 minute to think and say. After this, we will watch the vedio and find the answer together. The vedio is much easier for students to understand the key point.
Thirdly, the students become the teacher and teach the dinosaur the rules of ordinal number. And then finish the paper. The purpose of this is to stimulate the students’ interest, build the students' confidence and acquire self-learning abilities.
Fourth, look at the calendar, what's the date today? It’s June first. It’s Children’s Day. Happy Children’s Day! And then, listen to the songs and guess what's the date today? Games can arouse students’ interest in English learning.
At last, look at the picture, I will ask what’s this? What time do we eat it? On birthday! As we all know, the National Day is our motherland’s birthday. And my birthday is coming. It’s on December 9th. What about you? When is your birthday? Let’s guess.
Step 3. Practice ( It will cost about 7 minutes)
(1) Guessing game. I will choose two students’. One student will write down his or her birthday. The other student ask some questions. The whole class will say yes or no. The purpose of this is to cultivate pupils’ basic abilities of their listening and speaking.
(2) Ask and write. I will give 2 minutes to finish with their group member. Group cooperation can develop their team spirit.
Step 4. Production ( It will cost about 10 minutes)
In this step, I will create a situation: if your friend’s birthday is coming, what do you want to buy her/him? Before role-play, students should practice the sentences. After speaking and writing, let’s go shopping and role-play.
Purpose: Role-play method is much easier for the students to use the language in a real situation.
Step 5. Summary and Homework (It will cost about 3 minutes)
(1)In this step, students should make a conclusion. The key sentences in this unit are:
--What’s the date today? --It’s...
--When’s your birthday? --My birthday is on...
--What do you want to buy? --I want to buy her/him …
At the same time, I will ask students do you remember your parents birthday? When your parents' birthday come, you can say Dad/Mom, happy birthday! I love you!
(2)Homework: Make a survey about your parents’ birthdays. And then finish the writing.
The purpose of this is to cultivate their abilities of summarize and independence.
Part 7: Blackboard design
After the teaching procedures, I want to talk about the blackboard design. I write the topic sentence on the blackboard in order to tell the students that is of great importance in this class.
Part 8: Evaluation & Reflection
In this class, students will remember the new words and use the key sentences skillfully by working in a group、playing games and role play. After class, they can talk about birthday with their friends. In short, everyone will learn happily.
In my English teaching, everyone is interested in games and I also give students multiple evaluation methods. However, the students of low achievement is the necessary community in our teacher's education teaching process.
That’s all my presentation. Thank you!
